Desi Tadka, Ottawa: Restaurant of the Day

Our family has a long history in the restaurant industry, dating back to 1961 in the city of Amritsar, India. We have a passion for serving delicious, authentic food, and we are proud to continue this tradition in Canada.

Our first restaurant, Desi Tadka, opened in Brampton, Ontario in 2011. We specialize in using traditional Indian cooking techniques, such as tempering (tadka), to create flavorful dishes that are sure to satisfy your taste buds. Our menu features a range of dishes made with fresh ingredients and spices, including tandoori chicken, Butter Chicken, and Authentic dishes.

Noorain Huma is a software Engineer turned food blogger/recipe developer. She lives in the UK with her husband and two kids. She runs a blog Cook With Noorain, where she shares all of her recipes with her audience. She started Cook With Noorain on Instagram in 2021 just as a side hustle while she was working as a software Engineer for an Indian company. Noorain’s all time favorite food is Chicken Biryani.

Meera Sodha is a cook and a food writer based in London. She has written three best-selling cookbooks, and, since 2017. Meera has also written a weekly column for The Guardian called The New Vegan. Her first book, Made In India was named a book of the year by the Times. Her second book Fresh India, won the 2017 Observer Food Monthly’s Best New Cookbook Award. The third, East, was called ‘fabulous’/ by Nigella Lawson. She’s currently working on her fourth book.

Shaziah Zuberi: Inspiring Desi of the Day

Shaziah Zuberi has contributed blogs to The Express Tribune, Dawn Images, The Friday Times, and Daily Times. She also contributed to a cookbook authored by Shanaz Ramzi titled Food Prints. She lives in the US, where she practices her culinary skills by creating innovative recipes and shares them on her website and on Instagram and Twitter, to spread the joy of her inspirational cooking. Her first book ‘A Taste of Pakistan in Fusion’ is an effort to open doors, build bridges, and deepen relationships between Pakistan and the outside world through the “art” of fusion food

Nik Sharma: Inspiring Desi of the Day

Nik Sharma is the author, photographer, and recipe developer behind Nik Sharma Cooks/A Brown Table and The Flavor Files newsletter and the recipient of an IACP Trailblazer Award. He has appeared on Chef’s Secrets: The Science of Cooking (PBS), The Road to Cooking, and the upcoming series Confluence (PBS). Nik’s work has garnered multiple awards from Saveur, Parade, Better Homes & Gardens, and the American Food Journalism Awards. His first book, Season, was a James Beard and IACP awards finalist. His second cookbook, The Flavor Equation, was a James Beard Award, IACP Award, and British Guild of Food Writers Award finalist and winner of the silver medal at The German Academy of Gastronomy. Nik’s latest cookbook, Veg-table, debuted in October 2023.
